How clear aligner therapy works

Gone are the days when metal braces were the only treatment for straightening teeth. Embrace the new world of clear braces, where treatments combine the force of plastics with advanced technology to move teeth without metal! 

Clear braces are worn in phases. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before moving to the next in the series. This pattern continues until your teeth move to the desired position. You should wear your aligners as directed by Dr. Caton-Hospedales to optimize comfort and ensure your treatment progresses as predicted.

What to expect from SureSmile® treatment

Potential users of SureSmile® aligners should start by visiting a certified dentist. We begin your treatment by taking a quick and easy digital mouth scan. Scanning your mouth helps us examine your bite to develop a personalized treatment plan. Through the SureSmile® simulated capabilities, we can see how and when each tooth moves throughout your treatment.

Next, we order a set of custom clear aligners to orchestrate each step of your smile transformation with precision and predictability. It takes the dental lab about three weeks to fabricate your aligners. Once they arrive, you’ll pick them up from our office and we will show you how to use and maintain them. 

You should wear your aligners for about 20-22 hours daily. You should only remove your aligners when eating or brushing, and flossing. Although you shouldn’t eat with your aligners on (they will stain), you can drink water while wearing them. When used as directed, clear aligner therapy takes about 12-18 months to perfect your smile, although minor cases take fewer months.
